3. More Flexibilty
The best way to increase your flexibility is by stretching on a regualr basis. Even when you are not exercising or working out. Flexible muscles improve your daily performance in many tasks. Like bending over to put on your pants or tie up your shoe laces. Or reaching around to get something from the back seat while sitting in the drivers seat of your car. Most people lose a lot of their flexibility as they get older. But stretching especially before and after exercise can help to improve and maintain flexibility as you get older. I know of some mature Yoga teachers who can still do the splits as they stretch their muscles on a regular basis. As the old saying goes, “What you don’t use you lose”.
4. Reduce Stress
Stress can cause tense and tight muscles. Stretching can release that muscle tension and tightness making us feel more relaxed and peaceful. Notice when we are stressed that quite often our neck and shoulder muscles get tight and sore. Sometimes this type of upper body stress can also lead to headaches. Stretching and massage can prevent or alleviate this soreness. Plus its far more natural and less expensive then taking headache medication like Panadol.
