Arthritis is a terrible condition afflicting young as well as older people. Arthritis causes joint pain (arthralgia), swelling and stiffness. This affects a person’s ability to move their joints which can affect their ability to walk and do other physical activities.
While some forms of arthritis cause a local reaction that is limited to one joint in a specific region of the body (osteoarthritis and tendonitis), other forms of arthritis (systemic lupus erythematosus, scleroderma, and rheumatoid) may cause inflammation, joint stiffness, pain and swelling of several or more joints.
This article was prompted after one of my Zumba Fitness students said she may have to reduce the number of classes she does later this year because of her discomfort with arthritis. She is a great grandmother, and a very fit one at that. She has been in my Zumba classes from day one three and a half years ago. She is an inspiration to the younger students. But I was saddened to hear of this. So I told her that I have heard that some foods should be avoided to prevent or reduce the suffering from arthritis and joint pain.
So I hope the following recommendations will help her and others experiencing this terrible condition.
